Description
The code, with clear references to the consolidated law on public procurement, provides information for the design and construction of pressurised and non-pressurised fluid systems using polyethylene pipes, but it was not written with the intention of being used as a design or installation manual.
The aim was to link the mandatory regulatory requirements, which are scattered throughout various national and European laws and regulations, with the technical standards applicable to pipes manufactured using polyethylene. The areas of application covered are those dedicated to drinking water, combustible gas, industrial plant engineering and, finally, wastewater collection.
It is supplemented by numerous annexes providing operational examples, refers to more than ninety technical standards and is enriched with more than one hundred notes that help to link the topics covered.
The code can be used by the public administration as a guideline for determining the requirements of the work, by designers during the various stages of specification and for verifying design parameters, by manufacturers for the use of operating procedures and, finally, by works managers for verifying the documentation necessary for assessing the quality of the products used.

Pierpaolo Frassine
Pierpaolo Frassine has been working in the sector for years. In 1997, he began his career in working groups drafting technical standards under the ‘Uniplast Joint Welding Subcommittee,’ which was recently incorporated into the UNI/CT039 committee. In the early 2000s, he was appointed delegate and represents the Italian polyethylene pipes and fittings industry, actively participating in the CEN and ISO regulatory working groups. For six years, he has been the convener of the ISO TC138/SC4 WG 2 working group and was recently appointed chairman of the ISO TC138/SC7 subcommittee. He has participated in the drafting of 18 national standards, including some developed in collaboration with the Italian Gas Committee (CIG), and approximately 40 EN and ISO standards, all relating to polyethylene pipes. He was the project leader for 13 of these projects.
Since 2011, he has been working at Plastitalia S.p.A. with various tasks and responsibilities, mainly providing technical support to the national and international market. Previously, he held the position of product manager for many years within a national organisation owned by a multinational company.
