New product standard for PE component to be used in gas supply systems.

The standard series EN 1555 has been recently revised, and the result has been published on the CEN website. EN 1555 part 1, part 2, part 3 and part 4 came into effect the 8th of last October. European standardization bodies (e.g.: DIN, UNI, UNE, NEN, AFNOR, etc.) shall make them available on the respective country of interest latest on the 2026-04-30.

The important novelty in the new EN 1555 standard is the clarification for the use of the complying products (pipes, fittings and valves) in gaseous fuel systems where the use of hydrogen can reach up the 100%.

In EN 1555-1 an informative annex has been added where an example of calculation, related to the gas permeability, is given.

With this new publication the polyethylene supply chain, composed by PE manufacturers and converters, can contributing to the green-Economy, supporting the passage from the fossil carbon gases to the green new ones.
